MHAF proudly presents the 2nd annual Midwest Highland Arts Fund Amateur Bass Drumming Championships, presented by Premier Percussion, January 11, 2008 at the Marriott - Country Club Plaza, in Kansas City. The contest will be concurrent with the Gold Medal Championship. The Intermediate contest is for drummers graded two or intermediate by their regional pipe band associations, or those drummers who compete in registered Grade 3 or 4 pipe bands; intermediate drummers must submit an M-S-R. The Novice contest is for drummers graded three, novice, or lower by their regional pipe band associations, or those drummers who compete in registered grade 4 or 5 pipe bands; the drummers must submit a 2/4 March. Intermediate and Novice bass drummers must be accompanied by a piper and have the option of utilizing a snare drummer. Drummers placing First through Third in the two grades will win the Amateur Bass Drum Medal. Minted with the Gold Medal, the bronze replica is 2.5 inches (6.5 cm) in diameter, featuring the MHAF logo on the obverse. In addition, the two Champions. will be awarded a bass drum supplied by Premier Percussion, Pearl Drums, or Andante Percussion. The contest will be held just before the annual MHAF Winter Storm Weekend, January 11 - 13, and that Saturday evening's WINTER STORM 2008: The Pipes & Drums Concert, performed by the workshop faculty. Midwest Highland Arts Fund incorporated as a non-profit in 2001 and promotes the Scottish Highland performing arts in the United States, primarily through workshops, concerts, and competitions. Augmenting the excellent instruction available from local pipe bands, MHAF brings world-class musicians to Kansas City.
